Abstract:
To create this layer, the CZM datasets, "Harwich Port to Nantucket Harbor electric supply cable (National Grid Nantucket Cable No. 1), Nantucket Sound, Massachusetts, 2005" and "Hyannis to Nantucket Harbor electric supply cable (National Grid Nantucket Cable No. 2), Nantucket Sound, Massachusetts, 2005," were combined with cables CZM digitized from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) nautical charts.
Purpose:
These data were used in the development of a comprehensive ocean management plan to protect critical marine resources and foster sustainable uses in Massachusetts state waters as mandated in the Oceans Act of 2008.

These GIS data show the location of an electric supply cable from Harwich Port, Cape Cod to Nantucket Harbor on Nantucket Island in Nantucket Sound, Massachusetts. It is the eastern portion (National Grid Nantucket Cable No. 1) of what are two 46kV cable lines routed from Cape Cod to Nantucket, Massachusetts installed by National Grid. The line feature was created using hardcopy geographic coordinates provided by National Grid in the form of the drawing "Nantucket Cable Project Submarine Cable Marine Route Plan, Notes and Legend" dated February 1996. A marine survey was performed by Ocean Surveys Inc. on June 26 to July 4th and August 10 to August 12, 1994 to represent conditions. The drawing represents an as-built survey of the completed project.
