This GIS data layer is a gridded polygon representation of the Ocean Management Planning Area defined in the Oceans Act of 2008; for a full text, see <http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw08/sl080114.htm>. The grid cells are 250 meters on a side and projected into the Mass State Coordinate System, Mainland Zone (Fipszone 2001), meters.
Purpose:
These data are intended to be used in a the creation of a comprehensive plan to manage development in Massachusetts state waters as mandated in the Oceans Act of 2008.

Process_Description:
The data were created by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management using the ArcGIS "Create constant raster tool" set to 250m. The resulting raster was then converted to a polygon and clipped to the Ocean Management Planning Area layer. The clip was performed so that all cells covering the Ocean Management Planning Area were maintained. The data were then converted to the Mass State Plane Coordinate System, Mainland Zone (Fipszone 2001), meters.
