DCR Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) Viewer

Welcome to the DCR Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) Viewer. You can use this page to find information on ACECs. Here's how:

Microsoft Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 6.2 or higher recommended.

Using the Search Fields

    Two easy ways to zoom in are through the dropdown lists.
  1. Select a city/town from the dropdown list.
  2. Select an ACEC from the dropdown list.

Using the Map

Zoom In: Use this tool to zoom in on areas of the map for more detail. To zoom in, select this tool from the toolbar and draw a box around the area you would like to view on the map. You must click on the image and drag a rectange to zoom in, simply clicking on the image will not work.
Zoom Out: Use this tool to zoom out for a larger view of the map. To zoom out, select this tool from the toolbar and click on the map.
Pan: Use this tool to move the map and change your current viewpoint. To pan, select this tool from the tool bar and click on the map.The point you click will become the new center of the map.
Reset: Use this tool to reset the map view to its original extents (all of Massachusetts). To reset the view, simply click on this button in the toolbar.
Identify: Use this tool to get more info about an ACEC. Click the "i" tool first and then click either inside an ACEC polygon or on the boundary of an ACEC. Data for the polygon (name, total acreage, designation date) or for the boundary (source, type) for the ACEC will be listed in this window.
Help: Use this tool to bring up the help window that you are currently viewing.
Print: Use this tool to create a print page. The page will have a title, map and legend. The legend will appear immediately, but it may take a few seconds for the map to appear on the page. In order for this additional web page to be created, any active popup blocking software needs to be temporarily turned off. After the print page has been fully generated, simply choose File from the menu and Print to print the page.
